The 2015 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards (VNZMAs) were a cultural milestone, the 50th awards event since 1965. The VNZMAs are also one of the biggest nights of the year, with over 200 different media representatives on the red carpet, at VIP tables, or reporting from the backstage media room. Our role was to create awareness in the lead up to this 50-year milestone and generate nationwide coverage of the night.

Pead PR developed a multi-tiered media relations programme supported by press office and media centre management and media VIP hosting. We also managed the announcement of finalists, with live TV One and TV3 crosses from a media event at the Pullman Hotel and an embargoed release to key music media to maximise the coverage.

We had New Zealand media enthusiastically covering the nominees, with exclusive interviews running across TV, radio and print. We worked closely with media partners Mediaworks and NZME to ensure they received excellent story opportunities in the lead up to the awards.

On the night of the VNZMA’s, our entire team were on the ground to help ensure that the awards and media were effectively managed. We started with an exclusive artist departure party at the Pullman, managed limo arrivals on the red carpet at Vector Arena, and co-ordinated media coverage from inside and outside the venue.

Pead PR achieved phenomenal coverage of the event, with more than $4.5 million worth of PR coverage on television alone. In their 50th year, the VNZMAs were everywhere.

The team at Pead PR are without a doubt superstars! As the owners of the biggest event in the musical calendar, the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards, we would be at a loss without Peads extensive networks and innovative media strategies that champion the event each and every year. For well over a decade Pead have continued to increase the exposure, relevancy and public engagement of the awards and consistently raise the bar.
