Celebrating another year of Māori achievement
Māori Television geared up for its second annual Matariki Awards in July 2017 to celebrate Māori excellence and success across seven diverse fields. Pead PR was engaged to execute a media campaign in the build up to the awards ceremony that would highlight the achievements of the finalists and promote the event itself.
The Matariki Awards had some incredible finalists in each category, which was helpful in facilitating media engagement. Pead PR’s media strategy involved securing interviews with the talented and inspiring finalists who discussed the work they’ve been doing, their nomination for a Matariki Award and why they believe it is important to celebrate Māori success.
The results were fantastic – media loved speaking with the finalists and key messages about the awards were delivered across a wide range of media outlets. Overall, 52 pieces of media coverage were obtained, all with positive sentiment toward the event.
Coverage highlights including Young Achiever nominee Shay Wright’s interview on the AM Show, a spread on all of the business category finalists in the Sunday Star Times and an in depth interview with Arts and Entertainment finalist Mr. G on Radio New Zealand’s art show Standing Room Only.
The event was held at the Auckland Museum and was a huge success. Pead PR facilitated media interviews with awards winners throughout the evening and received fantastic feedback from key media who attended the event.
